The Lenna Kottke Rider Support Fund

lenna-head-shotThe Lenna Kottke Rider Support Fund

Established in the spring of 2016, this fund was set up to honor the long-term service of Via’s Executive Director, Lenna Kottke, and provide ongoing philanthropic support for trips for low-income riders.

Purpose of the Fund

Lenna served as Via’s Executive Director for 25 years until she retired in October of 2016. During her tenure, Lenna worked hard to grow Via’s paratransit (door-through-door, driver assisted transportation) program into what it is today – The Heart of Via. Lenna was passionate about serving those with mobility challenges – despite their income level or ability to pay. This restricted fund was set up to provide ongoing trip support for these riders.

In 2015 more than 36% of Via riders lived at or below the federal poverty level – more than 900 riders. The funding deficit for these trips is approximate $275,000 per year. Donors interested in the Rider Support Fund are encouraged to consider a more substantial gift made over three years to enable long-term financial support of this important fund. However, all gifts are gratefully accepted and will be carefully used. GREAT NEWS! Via has an anonymous donor that will match donations to the fund each year – 2016, 2017 and 2018!

Below is a quote from an early Lenna Fund supporter on the importance of this fund for Via.

“Lenna has been an outstanding leader of Via and has been passionate about serving those with mobility challenges. We are pleased to be able to honor Lenna by supporting the Lenna Kottke Rider Support Fund to help ensure that low-income seniors and those with disabilities stay connected to their community. Via is an essential community service, and we want to see it continue for years to come.” – David and Suzanne Hoover.
