As temperatures plunged to dangerous lows, Via Mobility Services stepped up to help our community’s most vulnerable residents. Partnering with the City of Boulder, Boulder County, and local shelters, we provided essential transportation, ensuring individuals experiencing homelessness could reach safe, warm shelter.
Helping People Reach Safety
From January 18-21, Via’s HOP service transported individuals from the All Roads Shelter to the temporary overflow shelter at the East Boulder Community Center (EBCC). Our team was on call from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday through Monday, ensuring reliable access to shelter. On Tuesday morning, we transported 62 individuals back to All Roads, with 10 requesting a ride downtown. In total, we provided 112 trips to those in need.
Emergency Shelter Opens for Extreme Cold
With forecasts predicting subzero temperatures and wind chills as low as -15 degrees, Boulder officials activated emergency shelter protocols. The Age Well wing of EBCC served as a 24-hour warming center from Friday evening through Tuesday morning.
Unhoused community members were first directed to the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless. If the shelter reached capacity, free transportation was provided to EBCC, where additional beds were available. The All Roads Shelter expanded its services by staying open during daytime hours throughout the weekend, following Critical Weather protocols.
