Tess’s Journey: A Life of Strength, Independence, and the Gift of Mobility

At just 16 years old, Tess’s life changed forever. A devastating car accident left her in a coma for nine months. When she awoke, her world was completely different—but Tess was determined to rebuild her life, one step at a time.

With the loving support of her family and her own unwavering spirit, Tess set her sights on independence. She enrolled in the Center for People with Disabilities (CPWD) in Boulder, where she learned critical life skills, pursued her education, and earned her certification in peer counseling.

Then, in 1987, Tess was introduced to Via Mobility Services—then known as Special Transit—and her world expanded once again.

Thanks to Via Mobility Services’ accessible transportation services, Tess is able to stay active and connected. She rides to the gym for strength training, runs errands independently, and attends community events. She even went skydiving—four times!—with the help of friends and caregivers who made it possible.

“Via makes me accessible to everything I want to do,” Tess says. “The drivers are incredible—kind, professional, and selfless. They make my life so much easier.”

At Via Mobility Services, we believe that mobility is more than just a ride. It’s freedom, empowerment, and connection. Tess’s story is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when people have access to reliable, inclusive ride services for people with disabilities.
