Laverda’s Journey: Finding Independence and Joy Through Via

At Via Mobility Services, we believe in the power of accessible transportation to transform lives. Every journey with Via is more than just a ride; it’s a step towards independence. Join us in exploring Via Rider Laverda’s story and discover how our services provide more than mobility – they are a lifeline to the community.

Laverda makes it a ritual to visit her favorite beauty salon every week for a refreshing shampoo and set. Over the years, she’s become familiar with all the stylists and many customers who, like her, have been loyal salon patrons. Beyond the stylish hairdos, what keeps her coming back is the lively conversations and the warm connections she shares with the staff and other clients.

Despite her radiant smile and apparent happiness, Laverda has faced profound sadness. In March 2021, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic in the US, she tragically lost her son after a 32-day hospitalization. The year 2022 brought another wave of grief when her beloved husband of 64 years, Don, passed away. Laverda openly expresses her struggle with Mondays and Tuesdays, as those are the days both Don and their son left her.

After the passing of Don, who had been her constant companion, Laverda found herself without a driver. Following her family’s request for her to refrain from driving, she discovered Via through a neighbor who was already using the service. Becoming a Via rider was a game-changer for Laverda.

“I absolutely adore Via’s services. Every driver has been incredibly kind and caring,” she shares. “Via has given me a second lease on life. Without it, I might just stay home.” Thanks to Via, Laverda can easily attend salon appointments and reach her doctor’s office, maintaining a sense of independence that she values deeply.

The image shows a Via driver and Laverda posing together with a sense of camaraderie. On the left is the driver, a man with a friendly demeanor, wearing a blue polo shirt with the "Via" logo. He also has a name badge around his neck and a pair of glasses resting on his head. On the right is Laverda, smiling warmly. Both are standing outside, likely in front of a building, as indicated by the presence of a window in the background. The image is encapsulated within a circular border with a blue highlight, which complements the blue theme in their attire and suggests a branding element, for Via Mobility Services. While Laverda acknowledges the kindness and care she receives from her family and neighbors, she appreciates the freedom that Via provides. “My family and neighbors are wonderful but have their own lives. Via allows me to stay independent.”

Despite her aversion to Mondays and Tuesdays, Laverda finds joy in the many blessings around her. Her surviving family, including a son and his wife, four grandsons, and one great-grandson, brings her immense happiness. Surrounded by friends and neighbors in the community she has called home for 64 years, Laverda continues to lead an independent life, with Via playing a crucial role in enriching her active lifestyle.

For Via, each journey we facilitate is more than a ride; it’s an opportunity to empower individuals like Laverda. With each trip, we strive to uphold the dignity and independence of our riders, ensuring they remain integral members of our community. Laverda remarks, “Via isn’t just helping me; it’s a service to the community.”

Each trip Via provides costs us an additional $8 after reimbursements from grants. Our mission to serve as a community lifeline depends on the generosity of individuals who believe in making a difference. Today, as we face a funding shortfall, your support can help us continue to be a lifeline for many more like Laverda.

Join us in this mission. Your contribution can transform lives, offering more than just a ride – it’s a ride towards hope, dignity, and joy.
