Susan Unger, Via’s Travel Trainer/Training coordinator, was recently recognized as Transportation Advocate of the Year by the Denver Regional Mobility and Access Council (DRMAC).
In her nine years at Via, Unger has expanded travel training services from Boulder County to the metro Denver area with funding from the Department of Transportation and RTD. Via’s travel trainers work one-on-one with qualifying individuals to help them learn to use public transit to get where they need to go.
“Susan is a tireless advocate for seniors and people with disabilities, especially their need for safe, independent travel,” said Bob D’Alessandro, director of Customer and Community Services and Unger’s supervisor. “As a result of Susan’s efforts, Via’s travel training program is recognized as a national model, and Susan is frequently called upon for technical assistance by programs across the country.”
In addition to publishing articles in national publications about travel training, Susan Unger brought the National Travel Training Association’s annual conference to Boulder in 2012, in part so they could learn more about Via’s model program.
UPDATE: Via has discontinued its Travel Training program. Visit our Travel Training page to learn about other Travel Training options in the Denver Metro region.
