If all goes well, in late February 2021, Via and the City of Boulder will be receiving three battery-electric buses from Proterra. These state-of-the-art zero-emission buses are now off the production line and being prepped for delivery. They will be used to provide public transit on the city’s HOP service, which Via operates under a contract with the city.
As part of Via’s Net Zero-Emissions goal, the new HOP buses will be charged with renewable energy in the form of solar energy captured by solar panels at Via’s Boulder facility and stored in batteries. Acquiring the Proterra buses is part of Via’s long-term plan to replace its current diesel and gas-fueled public transit and paratransit buses with vehicles that do not burn carbon or emit greenhouse gases.
