Via Mobility Services, Colorado CarShare, and Boulder County Mobility for All Receive Funding from NextFifty Initiative for a New Car Share Service in Louisville

NextFifty Initiative has awarded Via Mobility Services and its partners, Colorado CarShare and Boulder County Mobility for All, funding for a new car share service in Louisville, which supports older adults in the area by promoting independence and self-sufficiency for people with limited mobility by providing caring, customer-focused transportation options. The Colorado-based foundation’s support will allow local mobility agencies to advance their collaborative efforts to support people fifty and older with multimodal transportation options in our community.

“We are excited to expand multimodal mobility options that are designed to strengthen connectivity for older adults in our community with this support from NextFifty Initiative,” said Zoe DeVito, Development and Partnerships Manager of Via Mobility Services. “With the foundation’s support we can now offer hybrid and electric car share vehicles at Kestrel Apartments in Louisville where local public transit options are limited. It’s a tremendous endorsement to have this backing from NextFifty Initiative that enables us to provide creative solutions to ensure we can all thrive in our community as we age.”

“Our goal is to transform the way we as a society view and experience aging, and that informs the types of unique ideas and projects we fund,” said Diana McFail, President and CEO of NextFifty Initiative. “We see Via and its partners work on aging issues and experiences as an embodiment of our efforts toward more positive and enlightened approaches to aging. We offer our support and congratulations.”

About the Project Partners

Via Mobility Services

Via, established in 1979, is a private, nonprofit organization. Via received initial funding from the Boulder County Commissioners to coordinate an efficient, cost-effective and accessible transportation system for seniors and people with disabilities residing in Boulder County. Over the years, we have grown from an annual budget of less than $50,000 to a multi-county, multi-program, multi-million dollar budget. Via provides transportation and mobility options in 19 communities in five counties in Colorado.

Via’s mission is to promote independence and self-sufficiency for people with limited mobility by providing caring, customer-focused transportation options. We envision a future where all people, regardless of age, health, disability, income or ethnicity have easy access to the mobility options they need to enhance their independence and quality of life. Colorado CarShare

Colorado CarShare’s mission is to empower people to live a car-free (or lite!) lifestyle and have a positive impact on their health, wealth, the environment and our community. It aims to make Colorado a “cooler,” healthier, and more socially equitable place to live. As part of its mission, Colorado CarShare aspires to become the country’s first nonprofit Electric Vehicle (EV) car share program.

As a mission-driven not-for-profit organization, this includes an emphasis on social equity, building upon and growing EV carsharing and other forms of mobility-related education, outreach and services in low-to-mixed income (LMI) areas. Colorado CarShare’s approach allows it to mitigate climate change while creating vibrant communities that include multi-modal mobility options in mixed income areas. Boulder County Mobility for All

The goal of the Mobility for All (M4A) Program is to promote accessible, affordable, and equitable multimodal (transit, bike, etc.) transportation options for residents of all ages and abilities and to raise awareness that transportation is a basic social, economic, and health need.
