Fares Returning to Most Via Paratransit Service Areas

Via temporarily stopped fares during the COVID-19 pandemic when emergency grant funding was available to cover the cost of trips. Now, emergency funding has ended. And more people want to ride with Via than ever, but we already provide the maximum service possible. As a nonprofit, Via Mobility Services relies on donations, grants, and income from service contracts to fund trips for Via Paratransit riders. The average cost per trip to Via is $70.

To help meet the growing demand, Via is reinstating fares for some areas beginning September 1, 2023.

Our ultimate goal is to ensure all community members have access to vital transportation services. While these changes may affect some riders, we will continue to work tirelessly to keep our services affordable and accessible to as many people as possible. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Questions & Answers

Will there be an information session?

We understand you may have questions about this change. To provide more information and answer your queries, we’re hosting an online information session on Monday, August 7, 2023, at 3:00 p.m.

You can join us online at bit.ly/via-fares or call 719-359-4580 (Meeting ID: 868 0601 4272).

Why are fares being reinstated in some areas and not others?

Grant funding from different sources helps Via provide trips. Some grant funding agreements do not allow Via to charge a fare. Via will charge riders a fare when appropriate because it helps us provide more trips.
